Eight Sleep · AI primary care

Care that acts on every night your Pod records.

Clara reads every Pod night against your chart and meds, then drafts the SSRI review, the sleep study, or the dose change when the pattern warrants.

Get started How it works
My Pod says I've been sleeping fine on paper but I feel wrecked. Is something off?
Clara
Your Pod shows sleep-onset at 42 min (from 12) and deep sleep halved since your venlafaxine dose doubled. That fits its activation profile. I'll queue psychiatry and send this to our doctor.
Do it.
How it works

Your Pod sees every night. Clara reads them against your chart.

1

Connect your Pod and your records

Clara pulls your nightly Eight Sleep data (HR, HRV, sleep stages, sleep onset, thermal preference, restlessness) and auto-syncs your medical records from 150,000+ doctors' offices, hospitals, clinics, and labs. No PDFs, no faxed labs. Free to start.

2

Clara reads every night, not just the bad ones

The signal in sleep data is the trajectory, not any individual night. Clara cross-references rolling Pod data against your medication list, your last thyroid panel, your fasting glucose, and any recent mental-health intake, and flags the multi-week inflections that map to something clinical.

3

Chat, labs, or Rx when warranted

Ask Clara anything. When the sleep pattern points at something treatable, a licensed physician reviews Clara's plan and signs off on prescriptions or lab orders. FDA-approved prescriptions and ad-hoc lab work may be covered by your insurance.

Your Pod logged four weeks of collapsed deep sleep. Clara drafts the dose review before you book the next physical.

What Clara watches

The Pod signals that don't show up at your annual physical.

Sleep onset

Sleep-onset latency drift

A sustained increase in time-to-sleep is rarely "just stress". It maps to SSRI/SNRI changes, stimulant dosing, caffeine patterns, alcohol use, thyroid dysfunction, and untreated anxiety. Clara reads latency against your medication list and recent labs before suggesting any sleep aid.

>20 min
Average latency that triggers a Clara review against chart
HR & HRV

Nightly HR climb or HRV collapse

Sleeping HR is a cleaner baseline than any office measurement because it's stripped of anxiety and activity. A multi-week climb plus a falling HRV is the classic pre-illness signal, and is also a flag for subclinical hypothyroidism, anemia, alcohol use, or overtraining.

14 nights
Rolling window Clara reads against your chart
Thermal preference

Thermal-setting drift & pre-illness patterns

Your Pod learns your preferred thermal setpoint. When you're coming down with something, when cortisol is off, or when a perimenopausal pattern is emerging, the thermal preference shifts before the symptoms. Clara flags a persistent shift and cross-checks it against your chart.

Pre-sx
Thermal drift often precedes symptom onset
Sleep architecture

Deep sleep and REM collapse

A persistent loss of deep sleep or REM is a clinical signal, not a wellness complaint. It maps to alcohol dependence, depression, obstructive sleep apnea (particularly with loud HR spikes and SpO2 dips if available), and, when combined with a new stimulant, stimulant overshoot. Clara queues a PHQ-9 or a home sleep study when the pattern warrants.

A year of sleep data, read by something that can actually read it.

Your Pod collects hundreds of data points every single night: HR samples, HRV, stage transitions, restlessness, thermal preference, sleep onset. A year in, the dataset is too large for any clinician to read in a fifteen-minute visit. That isn't a time-pressure problem. It's a category of work a human clinician structurally cannot do.

Longitudinal, not anecdotal

Clara reads the last 90 nights as a continuous signal, not "how was your sleep?" at the annual visit. Multi-week drift gets caught; single bad nights get ignored.

Cross-reads Pod data against your meds and labs

Your new SSRI will collapse REM for a few weeks. Your GLP-1 will shift nightly HR. Your beta blocker will flatten HRV. Clara stops misreading expected pharmacology as pathology, and vice versa, catches the drug effect that actually is pathologic.

Catches sleep apnea risk the Pod can't diagnose

The Pod isn't an FDA-cleared sleep apnea device, but patterns in restlessness, nightly HR variability, and arousal indices, combined with your BMI, neck circumference, and resting SpO2 from any other wearable on file, produce a high-probability apnea flag that a wellness app cannot. Clara queues a home sleep test when the pattern warrants.

The Pod flags a year of apnea-pattern nights. Clara queues the home sleep test and the referral, with the summary already drafted.

Common questions

Eight Sleep with Clara: the questions patients actually ask.

What does Clara cost?
Connecting your medical records and chatting with Clara is free. Wearable integration (Eight Sleep, Oura, Garmin, Fitbit, Peloton, Whoop, Apple Watch) is included with the Standard plan at $50/month, which also includes 74 biomarker tests as part of the membership (not billed separately, not billed to insurance). All plans are HSA/FSA eligible. Prescriptions Clara writes and ad-hoc lab orders are billed by your pharmacy or lab and may be covered by your insurance.
How does Clara use my Eight Sleep data?
Clara pulls your nightly HR, HRV, sleep stages, sleep onset, thermal preference, and restlessness from your Pod and reads them against your full medical chart: current medications, recent labs, prior diagnoses, and anything else in the record. When a multi-week pattern in your sleep data intersects with something clinical (a dose change, a drifting TSH, a metabolic marker), Clara surfaces it.
What patterns does Clara watch for?
Sustained sleep-onset latency drift; multi-week nightly HR climb or HRV collapse; thermal-preference shifts that can precede illness or signal perimenopause; persistent loss of deep or REM sleep tied to alcohol, depression, or overmedication; and any sleep pattern that changes alongside a new medication. On patients with known hypertension, high cholesterol, or diabetes, Clara also watches nightly HR as a secondary signal of how well those conditions are actually controlled.
Is Clara a real medical practice?
Yes. Clara is licensed in all 50 states. All diagnoses, prescriptions, and lab orders are reviewed and signed off by licensed physicians. Clara's AI handles intake, continuous monitoring, and clinical reasoning, with human medical oversight on every order.
How is this different from my regular doctor?
Can your old doctor read your entire medical chart and every night your Pod has recorded in the last year, every time you meet with them? Clara can. A 15-minute annual physical sees a snapshot; Clara reads the trajectory. Your PCP orders labs reactively; Clara runs preventive checks on guideline cadence and flags the multi-week sleep drift before you mention feeling off. For broader primary-care context, see AI primary care or longevity.
Can I use my insurance, HSA, or FSA?
Clara's membership is cash-pay, not billed through insurance, but every plan is HSA/FSA eligible so you can pay it with pre-tax dollars. Prescriptions Clara writes go to your pharmacy and may be covered by your plan like any other script; ad-hoc lab orders at Labcorp or Quest may be covered when applicable. The 74-test biomarker panel bundled into the Standard plan is a separate category. That cost is included in the membership itself and is not billed to your insurance.
Is my Pod and medical data private?
Clara is HIPAA compliant. Your Eight Sleep data and medical records are used to personalize your care. They are not sold, and they are not used to train public AI models.
